Existing pre-war elements such as mahogany doors, lovingly patinaed crystal door knobs, and original herringbone parquet floors were protected through this thoughtful renovation. In contrast the bathroom was completely modernized and stripped of all extraneous detail to present a minimal glowing white box enhanced by polished Thassos marble walls and floors, and Lapis blue Murano glass tapware. The modern kitchen was sensitively designed and orchestrated to synthesize into the apartment as a whole. Plain-sawn ash veneer was selected as the cabinet material with a lightly applied white wash stain to soften the texture. This also neutralized the natural color of the wood and complemented the ebony stained floors and the sparkle of the Cristallo quartzite counters. Appliances were thoughtfully concealed and integrated finger pulls were incorporated into the drawers and doors to eliminate the need for added hardware.
